Welcome

Welcome to the section of the website which tells you who we are and about the work of the Local Governing Body at St Martin’s School.  You can also read the minutes from our meetings.

Our main role is to support the school in ensuring best outcomes for all pupils who attend the school.  We achieve this by working with the school to ensure that it delivers a good quality education, together with the Executive Headteacher and Head of School, we support the setting of the school’s aims and policies.
St Martin’s Local Governing board always acts as a ‘body corporate’ and remains accountable at the board level in law and to Ofsted for the performance of all its duties and functions.

Our Duties

We also carry out a number of other important duties, which include:

Monitoring how the school’s budget is spent

Hearing appeals and grievances

Forming policy on the school’s curriculum and collective worship

To support the Trust Board in setting standards for pupils’ behaviour and discipline

To support the Trust Board in making sure school buildings are welcoming and safe

To support the Trust Board in setting and monitoring the school’s aims and policies
We are committed to providing an excellent environment for all pupils to enjoy during their time at our school.

Our Key roles are:

 

To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction

To hold the Executive Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff

To monitor the financial performance of the school and report to the Trust Board and make sure its money is well spent

Meetings

 
Our Local Governing Body meetings are usually held in the morning. We attend training sessions and seminars to help us keep up to date with changes in schools and education and to help us do our job effectively. We also go into school to meet with the Executive Headteacher and Head of School, other members of staff and pupils to help us find out how the school is progressing towards its targets
