Sports Premium Funding – provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport – is to improve the provision of PE and school sport and is allocated directly to primary schools. Schools must spend the funding to improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils, but they are free to choose the best of way using the money.
At St Martin’s School, PE and sport play a very important part in the life of our school. We believe that physical education, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is vital and unique in its contribution to a pupil’s physical and emotional development and health.
This year, 2017/18, we have employed a PE/Sports Coach (Peter McCarvill) who increases the opportunities for after school sports provision and improves the facilities and opportunities in school for active play, whilst supporting class teachers in the provision of PE lessons. We also will continue to work with other schools in the collaboration in organizing competitive sport opportunities for the children.
