Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium is additional funding allocated to support pupils from low-income families. Although schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit, schools will be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupil’s attainment and progress.
The Department of Education Website states the following;
The purpose of the Pupil Premium
The government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it the most.
It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the pupils within their responsibility.
At St Martin’s School we ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all pupils.
Our Principles
● |
We organise teaching and learning at St Martin’s School in order to meet the needs of all our pupils. |
● |
We ensure that appropriate provision is made for children who belong to vulnerable groups and that socially disadvantaged children have their needs accurately assessed and met. |
● |
We recognise that not all children who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged and we also recognise that not all children that are disadvantaged have free school meals. |
● |
We allocate Pupil Premium funding to support any child the school has identified as being socially disadvantaged and should be making better progress. |
● |
We will allocate Pupil Premium funding after a needs analysis to identify priority groups and individuals |
