Term 2

Our Topic this term is entitled, 'Bright Sparks / Sound'.

Whether we are driving around in our cars, working, or relaxing at home, we turn on lights, music, TV, radio, computers and mobile phones. We are plugged in to sound and light 24 hours a day.

But what is the science behind sound and light?

Electricity is one of the most important discoveries ever made, and we have learnt how to use it to power almost every aspect of our lives. Who discovered electricity, and how does it work? As scientists, we will investigate insulators and conductors and learn how to conduct a fair test to extend and develop our understanding of electricity.

Potatoes and Lemons

We started Term 2 learning by seeing if a potato or a lemon can produce power!

We looked at how to make a simple circuit first and then took out the battery of the circuit and replaced it with a potato and then a lemon. We made predictions about which one could make power. We found out a potato can’t produce power but a lemon can… even though it didn’t work for us. We were so excited to see if it could produce power. We are going to attempt this experiment again to see if we can get it working.
