Term 4

Our topic this term is entitled 'The Garden of England'.

As spectacular scientists, we will consider, ‘Do all plants require the same conditions to grow?’ What can we discover about growing plants? Plants have been growing for thousands of years and during this time people have been enjoying them as food as well as appreciating their beauty. The earliest civilisations ate the plants that grew around them; today we not only eat some plants but grow plants for a hobby and to look at too! It’s not only people who enjoy eating plants – Peter Rabbit loves them too! We will learn all about him in our class text. As great geographers, we will explore through carrying out our own fieldwork studies, investigating; How many birds visit the garden every day?, What animals live under stones in the garden? What flowers do bees like best? We will then consider ways to share and present these findings.

Garden Of England

What a busy start to term 4! We kicked off our topic learning this term – The Garden of England – by becoming scientists and setting up some class experiments!

We planted some cress and placed them under different conditions, some with and without water, and some with and without sunlight. We have made our predictions on which would grow the most and we’ll keep reviewing over the term to see if our predictions are correct. We are also growing cress seeds on cotton wool and closely observing how quickly the shoot and roots grow from the seed, we’re recording this every day in our cress diaries!

Dymchurch class have used their gardening skills to plant some flowers and will continue to take care of them throughout the term. Keep an eye outside our classroom to see how they bloom.

Frampton Farm

In RE Dymchurch class have been learning about Easter and different objects that symbolise Easter, in particular lambs and how they symbolise new life. We spent the morning looking at the newborn lambs at Frampton Farm, before being able to visit and feed all the other animals. When we got back to school, we made our own version of lambs that we have seen earlier that day. What a great day!
